A topography is an in depth analysis of the elevation and slopes of an area. With a topographic survey we then draft out a comprehensive map of existing features displaying these elevations. A topography is a surveying service required for engineering projects that include reshaping the existing topography of the property. The reason a Topography may be required for such projects is the amount of earth being moved is expansive enough that a Major Grading permit is needed by the city. We prepare Topographic Maps for Architects to use for their building plans to determine how tall the building can be and a Topographic Map is required when submitting for a building permit. Additionally, if the grading being performed leaves a slope in an unstable state a retaining wall can be required to protect the slope from erosion and landslide.
